Interactive Combat Story: The Calm Before The Storm

Your orders are to hold the line and the welfare of 2nd Battalion depends on your ability to follow orders, even if it means your own safety is in doubt. You hurl several grenades into the darkness where the Germans are approaching and follow the explosions with a field of fire. For the next few minutes, you battle the unseen enemy and he dare not approach. Your ammunition on hand is nearing depletion and you fix bayonets in silence. If you are to die here in the cold, you are comforted that you will leave this life in the company of your dearest friends and this removes all fear from your mind.

The enemy advance has been halted momentarily and you begin to wonder if they have been repelled. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The deep, grating squeal of mechanized armor approaches and you rub your left hand down your face in weary acknowledgement of your fate.
