You hold your fire, fearful of spilling friendly blood and allow the men to approach to within close range, your pulse pounding in your temples. Three men, armed with rifles, emerge into view and your heart sinks. The enemy has come!
You fire at the nearest man and strike him in the abdomen as Pvt. Bernson follows suit and brings his rifle to bear on the German to your left. Both enemies fall as they run, gasping for breath. The third man begins firing frantically into the woods, unaware of your position. Private Bernson quickly takes him with a well-placed round to the chest.
More Germans surge towards your position, and you easily dispatch them. However, your location has been compromised and the enemy will soon take up position to root you from your trench.
