Battlefield Tour – Basing House
During the siege, at least one of the Dovecotes was converted. This particular Dovecote was built in 1530 for use as a garden “Banqueting Houseâ€. Whilst the House was under siege, it was used as a firing platform.
This is a representation of how this Dovecote might have been manned during the siege in 1644.
These two pictures show the shattered remains of a defensive tower.
{default}All around the “Old House†but within the outer walls are these deep man-made embankments. These are Earthworks that formed an impressive inner defence against attackers.
