Royal International Air Tattoo 2006

By Phil Royal

Display teams were present in force and provided a welcome artistic contribution. The RAFs Red Arrows, not surprisingly, were in attendance and looked good smoking heavily against the deep blue sky. The Patrouille Suisse with their four F5 Tigers gave a spirited display of close formation flying, and the Spanish Patrulla Aguila were as impressive as ever. A number of flypasts with other participants formed part of the display, with the Red Arrows forming on a VC-10 on the Sunday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the type, and the Patrulla Aguila alongside their Eurofighter C16 display aircraft.

On a more aerobatic note, the Royal Jordanian Falcons put their four Extra 300s through a good workout and never fail to impress, and the Utterley Butterley Boeing Steadman’s tried yet again to displace their wing walking girls (but they are tough cookies, and lived to see another day).
