‘Great Civil War Heroes and Their Battles’ takes its information from a work that was the source for biographies of Civil War officers that were printed on 19th-century tobacco trading cards. Reproductions of artwork from the cards are included.

Though far from the Civil War’s fields of conflict, Minnesota provided many troops that fought in some of the bloodiest of those battles. A reenactment at Wasioja, Minnesota, to honor those soldiers drew an estimated 10,000 visitors.
