World War I Photo Contest

World War I Photo Contest

By Media Release

We want to share with our readers the following media release we received recently about a photography competition related to World War I and its centenary observations. July 28, 2014, marks the 100th anniversary of Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia, setting events in motion that, thanks to entangling alliances and the desire to capture (or recapture) territories, led to the First World War. Visit World War I Facts and Summary for information on the Great War, plus links to many articles and book reviews from Weider History.

As part of the commemorations of the centenary of the Great War, the Conseil Général de la Somme is holding a photography competition open to all amateur photographers entitled “The Somme has a Meeting with the World”, from 15 April to 15 September 2014. All inhabitants of the Somme and visitors from France or other countries, who are 11 years of age or older, are invited to enter. This competition invites amateur photographers to compete in four categories. Three photographs will be selected for each of the first three categories, plus one for the special smartphone prize, making a total of ten winners.
