The Office of National Marine Sanctuaries of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has opened a new Website in recognition of the 150th anniversary of the launch of USS Monitor, the "cheesebox on a raft" that fought CSS Virginia (nee USS Merrimack) in the first battle between ironclad naval vessels.

The Website "takes viewers from the iconic warship’s construction through its recovery to recent science expeditions undertaken to protect its legacy. The website, also offers students, teachers and history enthusiasts a variety of education materials and a calendar of upcoming events celebrating the Monitor," according to a January 30, 2012, media release from NOAA.
