EPISODE 33 – "The Terminal Phase"

1.

As we left our heroes last time, the gigantic Supercomputer H.A.T.E. had been revealed as a traitor to Doctor Sinister and General Menace and was seemingly intent on its own dreams of world conquest and domination. With the Cheyenne Base now under attack by first the US Army and then heavy bombers from the US Air Force, the rest of the world seems oblivious to the fact that H.A.T.E. has effectively mounted a coup d’etat, taking over the entire Sinister Incorporated network and attempting to eliminate its founder – Doctor Sinister himself, so that it may rule in his stead.

With the US now an unwitting pawn in H.A.T.E.’s plans, it appears that only Doctor Sinister and the General are in a position to stop the insane computer from taking over the world…

Now, YOU take the role of General Menace – will our heroes survive…or die in the attempt?

Alarms wail and strobing lights mounted on corridor walls flash crimson red as you stand in the middle of a ruined concrete corridor in the midst of the once glorious Cheyenne Mountain Facility. As you look down at your previously immaculate uniform, now ripped and torn, caked in debris, you wonder how you, General Menace, commander of all military forces loyal to your lord and master Doctor Sinister, have managed to end up in another disastrous situation. And then it hits you – the pay was good and the chance at ruling the world was pretty tempting.

"Not that I’ll be doing much world-ruling now" you mutter to yourself as dust streams from a crack in the shattered ceiling.

In the distance, the howling of two trapped Siamese cats can be heard and you suppress a shudder. Doctor Sinister’s feline friends have caused you more than a few problems over the years and, not for the first time, you wish you could just leave them behind. But of course…Doctor Sinister would never allow that.

There is a coughing noise behind you and you turn to see…the man himself. Doctor Sinister stands before you, his black nehru-style jacket covered in grime and dust and yet…still casting an imposing visage as he looks down at you from his lofty height. His cybernetic left hand clasps and unclasps restlessly, as if it has a mind of its own – and in a way, it does, with the entire arm now housing a virtual copy of the H.A.T.E. machine itself. Doctor Sinister’s left eye is covered by a black eyepatch, a result of an unfortunate incident some years before which he never talks about, and yet which is the subject of much rumour and gossip.

With a start, you realise the Doctor has been talking to you whilst you have been daydreaming.

"Sorry My Lord, I think my ears have been playing up since the bombs struck."

"General, please try and pay attention and follow me. I think I’ve found us a way out of this section of the base so we can rescue the cats and make our way towards disabling H.A.T.E. before he has another crack at killing us."

"Oh good, because it won’t take those troops long to blast through the rubble – not with that damned machine guiding them to us"

You head down the corridor closely following Doctor Sinister as he strides ahead. Nervously, you grasp the pistol on your belt and pray you don’t have to use it. Eventually, after clambering over some smashed breezeblocks, you reach the end of the corridor. There are two large metal blast doors, one going left, one going right. Doctor Sinister looks at you.

"Well General, I told you I’d find a way through the rubble – I had to clear a couple of tons of stuff out of the way using my cybernetic arm – the only thing is, which way do we go?"

To take the left hand door, go to page 2.

To take the right hand door, go to page 3.
