Arlington National Cemetery’s 150th Anniversary

The leaves may be turning autumn colors, but here’s something you might want to mark on your calendar for next spring. We received the following media release about a series of events planned for 2014 to observe the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Arlington National Cemetery.

Starting in May 2014, Arlington National Cemetery will host a series of events to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Arlington as a national cemetery.  The commemoration will start with a wreath laying ceremony at the gravesite of Army Pvt. William Christman, who was the first military burial at Arlington and conclude with a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on June 15, the day Arlington was established as a national cemetery.
