A special event will be featured at FALL IN! Check out Roer River Crossing with the Ozark Division Vets, and meet some of the men who were actually there! Event F-081 at 6pm on Friday.

Iwo Jima: War in the Pacific – March 4, 2007

New Orleans, LA, November 2, 2006 – To commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the battle of Iwo Jima, Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours (SAHT) in conjunction with Military Historical Tours (MHT), has announced the 2007 tour date for "Iwo Jima: War in the Pacific." On March 4, 2007, following in the bootsteps of America’s heroes, veteran and historian, Captain Ron Drez will lead an eleven-day tour to visit the historic World War II Pacific sites in Hawaii, Saipan, Tinian and Guam. The highlight will be attendance at the Iwo Jima memorial service, the site where the raising of the flag by U.S. soldiers contributed to the most recognizable photo of the war.

"We are fortunate to be able to offer this unique experience with MHT because the Japanese Government only allows combat veterans from Iwo Jima to perform a combined memorial service with their Japanese counterparts once each year" remarked Yakir Katz, CEO of SAHT. "I expect this commemorative visit to fill quickly because of the renewed interest in Iwo Jima generated by Clint Eastwood’s tour de force, Flags of our Fathers."

Captain Drez, who has done extensive research in the field of American military history with renowned author Stephen Ambrose, touring battlefields and interviewing hundreds of WWII Veterans, said, "What people do not realize is that the flag raising occurred on day four, but the battle went on for another 35 days. We take people right to the beach where the invasion came ashore. On the ground you get an entirely different picture of what was really going on at the second deadliest battlefield of WWII."

The tour price for this once-in-a-lifetime experience is $6900 per person based on double occupancy and $7800 per person for single occupancy. The cost includes: group airfare Los Angeles-Hawaii-Saipan-Tinian-Guam-Iwo Jima-Los Angeles; access to Iwo Jima and Anniversary ceremonies; full-time historian and logistical escort; educational road book full of maps and historical information; first class accommodations in four or five star hotels; rooms with private bath or shower, hotel taxes, porterage and service charges; touring by private first class air-conditioned motor coach; 10 breakfasts, 9 dinners and a welcome reception; and all entrance fees to museums and attractions.

Founded by the late author and historian, Dr. Stephen E. Ambrose, SAHT was developed from his research and work. He combined his input, passion and knowledge to create historical tour itineraries that celebrate the American Spirit. He handpicked Captain Drez to lead many of the tours, but all historians are experts in their field of history and published authors.

SAHT offers all-inclusive, historic tours through the battlefields of Europe and the Pacific, and following in the trails of explorers in the American West. Other tours include "Band of Brothers" and "Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery" based on Ambrose’s bestsellers "Band of Brothers" and "Undaunted Courage." SAHT can arrange custom tours for individuals and groups.
