Show of Shows Lives Up to Its Name

By Peter Suciu

The annual military collectibles show, known fittingly as Show of Shows or SOS, was a week later than usual this year and in a new location. The show didn’t actually move out of the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, but it did move one hall over and this meant more tables with more dealers and just plain more to see and buy. In total there were in excess of 1,960 tables making it the largest, and easily finest, military collectibles show anywhere in the world.

Despite a still sluggish economy prices were holding steady and in some categories actually increasing in value, with one dealer of Vietnam War era items saying that this had been among the best shows he’s done. This suggests that collector interest is widening.

There was also a bit of “star power” this year as various dealers whose exploits, adventures and sometimes misadventures could be seen on various reality TV were on hand doing their thing as well.

In the end however it was many of the items that were the break out stars of this SOS. It was truly Show of Shows.
