Military Odyssey, 2005
Whilst temporarily manning the ACG stand, I saw lots of activity as various columns of historical soldiers marched by. Firstly, some British Infantrymen off to fight World War I, followed by some Napoleonic era troops also off to fight on the continent. Times don’t change much do they?
Uh-oh, it’s Emperor Napoleon taking personal command – now we’re done for. Where’s the Duke of Wellington when you need him?
{default}Later on my travels I found a complete Wild West encampment complete with burning stoves and bored Cowboys. I expect the weather was getting them down, it was just starting to rain – not what you expect in the desert really.
I tried paying a visit to the Hoplites, but they were all out. In fact, they were out on each of the three occasions I went to see them, and they left their shields and helmets behind. Maybe they were off to steal this German mortar.
To the left, a German Field Hospital from the Second World War. And as you can see, the chaps on the right had some replicas of some very early rocket artillery. Or were they fireworks…it’s so hard to tell sometimes.
Some more men marching, firstly some American Paratroopers from WWII, and secondly a column of men fresh from fighting the American Civil War.
