Military Odyssey, 2005
And so I jumped forward in time to find myself attending a medieval jousting session complete with Knights on horseback, Squires, and a most amusing commentator with a radio microphone. Hang on, something there doesn’t sound right…
Oh yes, there was the incongruity – it was a Squire beating a full-blown Knight at his own game. You only see that in the movies. But never fear, it was soon time for the horses to come out to play – as the Knights tried to snag the hoops from the mannequin as they charged by.
{default}Of course, the Black Knight cheated and rode his horse at a gentle trot to gather his hoop. Whilst other more honourable men rode at full pelt towards the target.
The Black Knight tries again, properly this time, and he wins the round. But what’s this, it’s that man with the helmet again challenging his authority.
The joust becomes a fight for personal honour and our friend finds himself dismounted and at the mercy of the Black Knight still on horseback. One of his lackeys arrives on the scene and soon a vicious swordfight ensues.
Deciding that if you want something done, it’s best to do it yourself, the Black Knight brings his own sword into the battle and victory is his…
Except it’s not, it’s actually the best of five (!) and he soon finds himself on the defensive again. But it’s all too easy…
Our friend is soon on his feet again and this time he battles like a demon, besting the Black Knight at every turn.
And he is finally victorious – winning the day, which just goes to show that evil can never triumph (shame).
