Matrix Games and Ntronium Games have announced that Armada 2526: Supernova is now available for purchase. The first expansion for their acclaimed 4x turn-based strategy/real time tactical blend, Armada 2526, the Supernova release comes hot on the heels of a recent PR blitz that included a trailer and a pack of screenshots.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “Armada 2526: Supernova improves the original Armada 2526 experience in many ways but it also adds so much more content and many new layers of strategy. Even if all the new features aren’t enough, now you can face off against your friends via LAN or PBEM for the ultimate challenge!”

Armada 2526: Supernova includes more 4X content. There are new star and planet types to discover, and more than 30 special features to make each star system distinctive. Players may encounter tachyon storms, psychic plants, primitives, or find abandoned alien technology that advances your own research. Two new races, with their own ships and special characteristics, await discovery. Befriend them, play as them, or exterminate them.

A new trade system lets players construct networks to trade valuable commodities between the stars, both between their own worlds and with other players. Alien relics, rare minerals, tourists, or even natural anti-matter, freighters can carry them all. Choke an enemy with trade embargoes, or blockade their planets with stealth ships operating behind the lines. But trade and tourism bring less welcome visitors too. The new espionage system lets players plant spies to gather information or steal technological secrets, or drop special forces that can sabotage defenses before an attack.

Fifty new technologies open up new strategies and tactics. Players can confound enemies with hard to detect stealth ships, jam their missiles with electronic warfare, build fighter stations to defend their planets, and blitz defenses with stormtroopers. Research Gaia to make everyone happy, or grind them under your heel with a variety of more powerful warships and upgrades weapons.

Armada’s simultaneous order system makes it suitable for multi-player action. Players can crush their friends playing over LAN (local area networks) or PBEM (play by email).
