"Four Tankmen and Dog" It is not a Soviet song; it is the song from the Polish mini TV-series which was very popular in USSR. Practically every man, who was a Soviet boy in 70th-80th, remembers this movie, it was the favorite movie of all the Soviet boys of that time. [AMVAS - This was the single serial I managed to watch in full scale in 1980s 8))) ] Name of this movie is "Four tankmen and Dog". This movie (app. 25 parts [I remember ~30 parts, AMVAS], it was large enough for Soviet TV) was about actions of the Polish crew of T-34 of Polish Army which were equipped with Polish uniform and with Soviet weapon and which fought against the Germans together with the Red Army in 1944-45. And it is not accidental that a dog is mentioned some times in the song. This crew had an additional crewmember - the dog with the simple Russian dog's name "Sharik". This dog saved the lives of the brave tankmen for many times. This song was singed in the beginning of the every part of the movie. I remember very well smiling young faces of the Polish tankmen in the Soviet tank helmets over the cover of the hatch of their T-34. It was a very difficult to translate correctly, because the Russian version is not understandable enough. ******************************************************************************************** "Four tankmen and dog" (translation of Andrey) (ATTENTION: The first TWO couplets are absent in the .mp3-version) There are kaluzhnitsa [1] on meadows And there is a wind in the sky. And we are at this war, And we are looking on the world around. We shall return on meadows. But firstly we have to finish Some different works, May be, others will finish it. We shall return to Mommy And to school benches. Anxious rains Cut the world, And we are fighting on this war Already for some years. We shall return home, Shall make fire in a stove, And shall give food to the dog. We shall return at the night But firstly we have to win And it is a very important game. There are clouds in the sky, Villages are full of lilacs, Where is that far world Which is full of many good dreams? We shall return and shall stay faithful, We are four tankmen, "Red-haired" [2] and our red-haired dog. We, four tankmen, Shall return and shall stay faithful l To the spring lilac. Remarks of Andrey [1] - kaluzhnitsa is name of flower [2] - "Red-haired"... Yanek, one of the tankmen, called their T-34 "Red-haired" and wrote this name on its armor, he did it in the honor of Russian girl Marusya who was red-haired and who was a combat medic in an adjacent Soviet unit. ******************************************************************************************** The Polish version: "Czterej pancerni i pies" Na lakach kaczence, A na niebie wiatr, A my na tej wojnie, Ogladamy swiat, Na laki wrocimy Tylko zalatwimy Pare waznych spraw Moze ci nie sami, Wrocimy do mamy, I do szkolnych law.
