Panzers In France, January 2008 Photo Error
Thank you everyone who sent us their guess about this photo. We don’t have a definitive answer for this particular photo, but the consensus is this is a Panzerkampfwagen IV (Special) Ausf F2 which did not see action in France of 1940. The open, flat terrain suggests this is somewhere in Russia probably during the 1942 summer offensive. Read more about the Panzerkampfwagen IV at Achtungpanzer.com!

Closest tank is a PzKpfw IV Ausf.G at the earliest, which came into service in the beginning of 1942. the single baffle muzzle brake seems to indicate an early mark of the Pz 4.
The Pz 3 farther away isn’t as easily recognizable, but seems to be an Ausf. J from what is discernible of the drive sprocket etc.
It too seems to have a long barrel gun, visible behind the open turret hatches, that was not used in France 1940.
