Armchair Help Wanted: Website Editor

Armchair General is seeking a qualified Web Editor to enhance our growing team.  Do you run your own website or know someone who does? POSITION: Web Editor / Full Time
SALARY RANGE: US 30,000 – 45,000 depending on experience

The Web Editor is responsible for general day-to-day maintenance and content of our website. This includes expert and timely handling of web content from a variety of internal and external sources, including news portals, RSS feeds, forum discussions, freelance authors, blogs, etc. primarily using a CMS (WordPress). Additionally, the Web Editor will be responsible for basic website maintenance such as backups, software upgrades, image handling, and some basic oversight of part time staff. The ideal candidate will also be able to contribute to discussions of strategic site planning and intelligently discuss opportunities using "new media" applications to promote our site and products.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in web content management and website operations.
  • Must be proficient in HTML/CSS; some experience with PHP would be helpful
  • Experience working on the back end of websites using FTP, Control Panels, Shells, etc. (Mostly Linux)
  • Some experience with graphics programs and image manipulation for placement on websites
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members online ; ability to work without constant supervision (telecommute)
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, unstructured, and self-directed environment.
  • Strong English writing skills
  • Proven ability to problem solve

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability to design and operate a website, from domain name purchase to having your first visitor.
  • Past experience growing a website community would be a major plus.
  • English or Journalism degrees, or past positions involving self-published articles would be helpful
  • An interest in History would be ideal
